most folks writing about hiking the AT are old hats at going the distance and being organized, it was refreshing to read about one (of many, i'm sure) write of his misadventures along the way, learning the ropes as he went...and all they folks he met, along with the trials and tribulations...a good read.Product details

Great Read!
I really enjoyed the story of the author's transformation from being laid-off from a corporate job, to his audacious and ill-prepared plan to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. His account of the lessons learned, the people he met and the obstacles he overcame were great. It is written from a voice the is easy to relate to, there are several humorous parts and I was surprised how emotional the final pages turned out to me. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods"
I Read this one in two days, although my facination with this book was two fold 1) I have a secret desire to hike the AT, 2) I am friend with the author. Given those two truths, I couldn't stop reading this book. I shook my heads at many points disbelieving his lack of basic hiking knowledge and celebrated his grit and determination to fulfill his goal. Most impressively, he wrote a book bringing his adventure to others to experience second hand.
Got the book for Christmas from my son, started reading it and couldn't put it down! I live in the Atlanta area and have day hiked and overnighted on the AT for years, and found Young Guns story of his thru hike amazing. His story is one of a guy who gets laid off and probably felt like a failure, who takes on one of the hardest physical and mental challenges imaginable and completes it! In the process he rediscovered
himself and learned what was truly important to him. Excellent read.
Great read about the AT and thru hiking the trail.
